HEC Alerts Students: Avoid Admission in Phased-Out Two-Year Programs

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has issued a warning to students against enrolling in two-year degree programs that have been phased out since 2019. In a recent alert posted on HEC's official Instagram, it was emphasized that programs like two-year BA/Sc and MA/MSc have been discontinued since the academic year 2019 and June 30, 2022.

Despite clear directives from HEC, some institutions have continued to admit students into these obsolete programs beyond the specified deadlines. HEC stressed that degrees obtained from these programs will not be recognized or attested by them.

The decision to phase out these two-year programs was made in 2004 to align with international educational standards and improve the quality of degree programs. Universities were given until 2016 to transition away from these programs.

Initially introduced as alternatives to traditional BA and BSc programs, these two-year associate degree programs were equivalent to 14 years of education. Graduates of these programs were eligible to apply for admission to the fifth semester of a four-year BS program upon completion.

HEC's alert urges students, parents, and stakeholders to steer clear of these outdated programs to avoid issues related to degree recognition and attestation in the future. For more information, visit HEC's official website or contact them directly.
