KP Government Announces Public Holiday for 1st Muharram

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has declared a public holiday across the province to mark the beginning of the new Islamic year, according to ARY News on Thursday.

The announcement was made by the Chief Secretary, who noted that the holiday on the first of Muharram is contingent upon the sighting of the moon.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, led by Maulana Muhammad Abdul Khabir, will convene on July 6 to observe the moon of Muharram al-Haram. This meeting will determine the start of the new Islamic year. Zonal committees will also hold meetings at their respective headquarters to observe the moon, with the Chairman of the Ravi Hilal Committee officially announcing the beginning of the new year.

In addition to the holiday announcement, both federal and provincial governments have implemented special security measures to ensure law and order during the Muharram period.
